Heartland Community Foundation awards over $58,000 in Rooks County

HAYS, Kan.— The Heartland Community Foundation, which serves Ellis, Rooks and Trego Counties, recently awarded over $165,000 in fall grants to area organizations across the three counties.

In Rooks County, funds were distributed to the following organizations:

  • Plainville Saddle Club, $10,000 for installation of new lighting at the Saddle Club Arena.
  • City of Stockton, $2,074.42 to purchase living room chairs for resident living rooms in the new facility build.
  • City of Stockton, $3,000 for the purchase of a new holiday light and pole accessory for the downtown area.
  • Plainville Recreation Commission, $5,000 to purchase new aluminum bleachers at Max Malin Memorial Ball Park.
  • USD 270, $9,291 to assist with creating an outdoor classroom area for lessons and enjoyment of lunch.
  • Main Street Christian Church, $1,500 for the purchase of six Lifetime convertible folding benches to be used in the outdoor area.
  • Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas, $4,774 for the purchase of an Otoacoustic Emissions Machine and ear tips for the hearing of children in the program and adults with developmental delays.
  • Rooks County Healthcare Foundation, $8,988 to provide funding for the purchase of a hospital-wide temperature monitoring system to protect temperature sensitive pharmaceuticals, foods and equipment.
  • USD 271, $2,793.22 to assist in the purchase of a gaga ball pit for the playground.
  • Rooks County, $4,000 to assist with the purchase of a larger mower for fairway and rough maintenance.
  • Redbud Village, $10,000 to assist with the costs for training and configuration of a new MDS software which will replace their outdated system that currently is no longer in service.

Multi-County:

  • Celebration Community Church, $3,400 to help with Night to Shine Drive Thru Parade. Night to Shine is a prom experience centered on God’s love for people with special needs, ages 14 and older.
  • Kansas Dental Charitable Foundation, $5,000 to help assist with general supplies and expenses associated with treating patients at the Kansas Mission of Mercy free dental clinic.
  • Catholic Charities of Northern Kansas, $3,000 for the Diaper Program, which provides diapers and wipes to income-qualified families monthly for a full year per child in the household.

This round of grants was made possible by the Dane G. Hansen Community Grant Fund, which focuses on improving quality of life throughout the county; the Ellis County, Rooks County, and Trego County Legacy Funds; and the Kansas Health Foundation Fund for Heartland Community.
