A Pawsitive Impact: Therapy Dog Brings Comfort and Connection to Students in Plainville
Supporting student mental health and emotional well-being has never been more important. With a $4,115 grant from the Heartland Community Foundation, USD 270 Plainville School District has partnered with Cares, Inc. to bring a professionally trained therapy dog, Taz, into the school setting — offering comfort, calm, and connection to students across all grade levels.
From easing anxiety to helping students develop emotional regulation skills, Taz provides a gentle, reassuring presence that contributes to a more positive and supportive learning environment. His daily visits create meaningful moments of connection, helping students feel safe, welcomed, and ready to engage in the classroom.
The impact of this grant extends far beyond the present day. By integrating therapy support into everyday school life, the program offers consistent, compassionate care that students can rely on when they need it most.
This project is especially meaningful as it honors the memory of Marianne Werner, a beloved Special Education teacher whose deep commitment to students and love of therapy animals left an enduring imprint on the Plainville community. Through the generosity of her family, Marianne’s legacy of kindness, empathy, and advocacy continues — touching young lives and reminding students that they are seen, supported, and cared for.
