Heartland Community Foundation Expands Adding Two New Offices in Trego and Rooks Counties

HAYS, Kan.— The Heartland Community Foundation is growing – just in time for Match Month!
To better serve donors, grantees, and community supporters, HCF is excited to announce the
opening of two new local offices in Trego and Rooks counties. These offices will provide a
welcoming space for those looking to give back, apply for grants, discuss community projects,
and learn more about how Heartland is strengthening our communities.

In WaKeeney, Savannah Downing, Trego County Development Director, will be based in a
shared office space at Pfannenstiel Law, located at 110 N. Main St. Heartland Community
Foundation signage will be installed soon. To celebrate, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will take
place on Feb. 10 at 11 a.m., during the Match Month Souper Bowl Pop-Up Lunch—a perfect
opportunity to stop by, enjoy a warm meal, see the space, and learn more about Match Month!

In Plainville, serving the Rooks County region, Deanna Hammerschmidt, Rooks County
Development Director, will now work from an office at 202 W. Mill St. A ribbon-cutting event
will be scheduled at a later date, and Heartland signage will be installed soon.

Both offices will be open daily, between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., though staff may be out at times
meeting with community members. Look for posted signs about any changes to regular hours.
Meanwhile, Sarah Meitner, HCF Executive Director, will continue to be based at the
organization’s main office in Hays at 1200 Main St., Suite 102, in the Chestnut Building. The
office suite there is open 8:30-5 p.m. daily.

“These new offices reflect Heartland’s commitment to strengthening local connections and
making philanthropy more accessible across our region,” Meitner said. “We’re excited for
Savannah and Deanna to have dedicated spaces where they can engage directly with donors
and community partners.”

Heartland Community Foundation Accepting Grant Applications – March 15-May 15

The Heartland Community Foundation, dedicated to supporting Ellis, Rooks, and Trego counties, is excited to announce the opening of its spring grant cycle. As of March 15, applications can be submitted online until 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2025. Approximately $150,000 in funding is available in this grant cycle.
